The trip to Walker was well worth it

I managed to get up to our cabin this past weekend thanks to my son, Brad, who took good care of the “old guy.” The downside was that it rained all day on the first day. The up side was that on the second day we took a trip to Walker where Brad’s son, Dylan, his wife, Kloe, and grandson, Krew, were camping. Brad said that spending that day with them was well worth the trip. Krew is almost a year and a half, and once he found out what fun walking and running was, he was constantly on the go. He also has a fondness for brats. Dylan cuts a brat into little pieces, and Krew can’t get enough.

 

That was a fun afternoon spent at Kloe’s Dad’s campsite. It brought back some fond memories of the days when we camped. I know that Brad really enjoyed it – any time spent with your first grandchild is precious. The hospitality that Josh and his family offered us was top notch and those chicken wings were second to none.

 

The day there was cold and gray, but driving through downtown Walker the sidewalks were packed with tourists. I’d guess that the cold weather kept people in town instead of out on the lake. It is a nice little town with plenty to offer visitors.

 

Until next time: Shortly after I wrote my last column, the dock on Pickerel was in and the ramp was repaired. Now folks can get on the lake for some fishing.

 

Gooseberry Falls State Park took first place in the vote for best state park in the USA Today 10 BEST Reader’s Choice Awards. Over four weeks, people throughout the U.S. voted on the 20 best state park nominees, which were selected by a panel of USA Today editors and subject matter experts.

I’m proud that our stewardship leads to memorable experiences for Minnesotans and visitors from across the U.S. and beyond.”

 

Please take the time to remember our troops that are serving now and those that have served before them. They are the reason that we have all of the Freedoms that we enjoy today.
