Funny how things change over the years

I am looking forward to the spring like we used to have when I was kid. Now, it seems like whenever we have warmer weather, we have gale-like winds to go along with the warm weather. If I remember right, March and April were usually kite months. If you were a little kid flying a kite in this wind, it would be hard to tell where you would end up.
When I was younger with a family at home, I would look forward to going up north for a week of camping and fishing. Now I look forward to going to the cabin, but I still miss those days of camping. I know camping is not as economical as it once was, but it is still cheaper than renting a cabin. I am pretty much past the tenting stage. That little kid in me still would like to spend a night on one of the free campsites on Spider Lake. I think that my body could stand up for a night or two under the right conditions. In a perfect world, it would be a slight breeze, temperatures in the high 60’s to low 70’s, cooling off to the high 50’s at night and, as long as I am dreaming - no mosquitoes.
If I am going to tent, I should probably buy a cot because by sleeping on the hard ground, by morning my body would probably feel like rigor mortis had set in.
Until next time: It is funny how when we are young our dreams are pretty much endless. As a kid I would mow lawns with my uncle, help bale hay and do whatever it took to make a little money. Even as young adults we feel like anything is within our reach. Then as we get older, our kids are grown and living their own lives, having babies, giving us grandchildren and now great grandchildren.
I feel blessed to be able to still be here to enjoy all of this, because to me, family is what life is really all about.
Please take the time to remember our troops that are serving now and those that have served before them. They are the reason that we have all of the Freedoms that we enjoy today.
