Fall has created some great memories

Since we have had our cabin “up north” I have experienced some great memories with my family. When my grandsons were young, we would go up over MEA week. This gave them a chance to hunt waterfowl and grouse. If the weather was warm enough, we could also do a little fishing.
Since fishing was my main interest, I would stay in the cabin and feed the fire while they ventured out on the lake to do a little waterfowl hunting. There is nothing like coming into a warm Cabin after being out in the cold fall weather for a couple of hours. When the boys headed out to hunt, I would wait until I heard gunshots or the sound of the outboard motor starting up before starting breakfast.
Hot coffee and a hot breakfast taste mighty good when there is snow on the ground and cold temperatures are there to greet you when you step outdoors.
One thing about duck and grouse hunting, Trevor would always clean the birds; he is good at it and I appreciated not having to be involved.
My grandson, Dylan, came up with me a few times over MEA week. His main goal was to do a little fall fishing. He and I had some pretty good luck in the fall fishing for northerns, which is what we mainly seek out in the fall. You may also be treated to a nice bass and an occasional walleye in the process.
Dylan and I mostly troll or cast in the fall, so there is really no jigging involved. We have had good luck in past years by trolling deep running baits in late summer and early fall. Later in the fall, we would run stick baits, spinner baits and bucktails along weed edges.
Please show your support for our troops who are now deployed. These service men and women are making that sacrifice, so that we may have the many freedoms that we enjoy today.
