Enjoying a couple of days at “The Lake”

This past weekend I was lucky enough to spend Labor Day weekend with my son, Brian, and his son, and my grandson, Trevor. Trevor had reserved a cabin for us on Lake Superior near Two Harbors.

 

The cabin was a small and unique cabin facing the lake. We arrived on Sunday, and before you knew it, we were on the lake and fishing for lake trout. I had never fished Lake Superior, nor had I pursed lake trout. Trevor had fishing poles rigged up for both Brian and me. Brian caught his first trout and sometime later, I also had my first-ever lake trout. Trevor had already caught a few before we arrived. I couldn’t have been happier to have caught my first-ever Lake trout.

 

The next morning, we hit the lake early (not too) and soon had a little luck, with Bran and I each catching one at the same time. Trevor said that it was slower than the previous day, but Brian and I weren’t complaining. Trevor did manage to outfish us, but we weren’t complaining one bit. I got to fish with my firstborn and his firstborn.

 

Trevor knows how to find them and gets excited to see both Grandpa and Dad catch fish. I cannot say enough about how much I enjoy spending time with both of them.

 

I haven’t spent time in a rented cabin in years, and it really felt kind of good. The place was busy and they have about ten rentals. I would come here again for a couple of days just to enjoy the lake and the surrounding area. Both of our sons have taken trips to the north shore over the years and always say that they look forward to going back. I have never wanted to go north without a fishing pole and a little tackle, but I could do this, even if for just a long weekend.

 

Trevor headed home on Tuesday and Brian and I went to our cabin for a few days. I will share about that trip in my next column.
