Boys basketball season ends

As expected, the sub-section tournament was tough for the NRHEG High School boys' basketball team.

 

The eighth-seeded Panthers, plagued almost all season with injuries, lost 99-58 at top-seeded Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial last Tuesday. NRHEG finished with a record of 3-24.

 

"While we continued our trend of shooting well from the field, we also shot ourselves in the foot with far too many turnovers," said Panthers coach Dan Schmidt, who had plenty of praise for the Knights, who improved to 24-4 overall after winning the Valley Conference at 13-0.

 

"LCWM is such a phenomenal team that puts a tremendous amount of pressure on you on the offensive and defensive ends of the floor," said Schmidt. "They move the ball so well, which opens up so many opportunities for them. Every time we'd feel like we had a solid defensive possession going, their ball movement would catch up to us, and they'd sneak in for an open layup or an open three."

 

Will Tuttle finished out his Panther basketball career with another solid night, notching 17 points on 7-for-13 shooting, including three of four from the line, and seven rebounds.

 

Jared Lee continued to play well, hitting five of nine shots, including 3-for-5 on three-pointers, on his way to 13 points. Brooks Gilliland came off the bench in the first half to hit three three-pointers, for nine points. Jase Knudson added a couple more threes for six points. Greyson Schaefer added five points, Sam Olson and Aaden Hanna four a piece. 

 

This game marked the end of the NRHEG basketball career for seniors Tuttle, Jackson Chrz, Daxter Lee, Sam Olson and Levin Kitzer.
