Jean Marie (Miller) McGuire of Plainview, MN passed away peacefully on September 9, 2024, at Gundersen St. Elizabeth’s Care Center in Wabasha, MN after a courageous three-year battle with cancer. Jean was surrounded by her loved ones at her time of passing. Jean was born in Waseca, MN on July 4, 1944, to Francis and Harriet (Erwin) Miller. Jean graduated from New Richland, MN high school in 1962. She then went on to attend Mankato St. University, Mankato, MN.
Jean fell in love with the love of her life, Jerry McGuire. They were married on September 12, 1964, at All Saints Catholic Church in New Richland, MN. They lived in various states and had four wonderful children. They eventually settled in the Plainview-Elgin area where they raised their children and spent the last 50 plus years in the area.
Jean was very proud of being a hard worker. She held various jobs such as a secretary in Minneapolis, MN, a waitress at Michaels Restaurant in Rochester, MN for 20 years, and drove school bus for the Plainview school.
Jean had an exceptional creativity and artistic ability. She exhibited her craft making abilities at numerous craft fairs. They spent many winters in South Padre Island and Harlingen, Texas creating and selling their many amazing crafts, and formed a number of wonderful and long-lasting friendships. She enjoyed making crafts, gardening, baking, and spending time with her family. Jean also enjoyed hunting and fishing with her family.
Above all, Jean had a very strong catholic faith and was a member of St. Joachim’s Catholic Church in Plainview. She shared her faith with her family and friends. Jean especially loved spending time with her family. She cherished the various family gatherings and loved to watch the children play. Her hugs would melt your heart and remove all worries. Jean enjoyed attending her grandchildren’s various activities, such as sports, plays, and music concerts. She loved to keep up with all the grandkids and great grandkids growing up and seeing how their lives are changing over time. Jean loved to watch the birds and hummingbirds that came to her feeders and also the frequent pesky rabbits and squirrels.
Jean will be lovingly remembered by her husband, Jerry of 60 years; four children, Dan (Cindy Porter) of Mazeppa, Tim (Laura) of Zumbro Falls, Jerelyn (Todd) Ness of Kasson, and Chris (Josh Thompson) of Plainview; 16 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren; four siblings, Marianne (Tom) Strom of Ham Lake, MN, Maureen (Ken) Graber of Jordan, MN, Joe (Francine) Miller of Louisville, CO, and Rita Miller of Minneapolis; sister-in-law, Diane Miller of New Richland, MN. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Peter Miller and Paul Miller, one sister, Judy Miller; and one infant great-grandchild, Ellie Branchfield.
A funeral mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 12, at St. Joachim’s Catholic Church in Plainview with Father Tojy Jose officiating. The burial will follow the service in St. Joachim’s Catholic Cemetery at Plainview. Friends and family may visit from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 11, at the Schleicher Funeral Homes, Plainview Chapel and one hour prior to the service at the church.
