Three questionable truth tellers

Genie would like all of you fine readers of this column to know she made a tough decision this year regarding Lent: she gave up snow shoveling!! Her decision lasted part of one day as it started snowing the Tuesday before Ash Wednesday with blizzard weather causing the Lenten service at the Church, Central Freeborn Lutheran Church rural Albert Lea to be canceled, as it was for most area Lenten services.

Deb Bently, staff writer of The Star Eagle Newspaper New Richland, Minnesota, wrote an excellent article about snowmobilers today, remembering the good old days of plenty of snow for snowmobiling in the area. (See 2-27-25 paper.)

Deb did her research on many area snowmobilers and found the names of three local questionable truth telling snowmobilers. The three and their current ages were: Dale Waage, 82; Brian Wayne, 71; Ed Nelson, 70.

Readers, please note I referred to the three as questionable truth tellers!!

The three told of the area snowmobile trails beginning around 1972. Thus, Waage was about 30, Wayne about 19 and Nelson about 18. They told of Interstate 35 to Albert Lea opening in 1968. Thus Wayne was about 28, Wayne about 14 and Nelson about 13 when the freeway opened, and they had ridden two to three years before on the graded bed of the freeway to be.

Thus, I submit to you readers the ability of three snowmobilers to pull a snowstorm over on your believing snowmobilers like the before mentioned threesome!!

I was told the three before mentioned snowmobilers made a pact with the weatherman as follows: If the weatherman would cause it to snow at least 10 inches of snow the eve of Lent, they would pay tribute to three wise men from afar. Yes, the three snowmobilers kept their part of the bargain.

Things all people in the know, like you are, should know about:

1. The MN DNR has scheduled an update for Beaver lake in 2025.

2. 2. Plymouth Shoe Store in Albert Lea is recycling sandals. Just bring in your old sandals regardless of wearability.

3. If you don't know when April fools is, you are the fool.

4. There is an adult male Eagle with white feathers plus a juvenile hanging around on the east side of the road going south past Jerry and Linda Heideman's on the Bath Road.

5. The word of the day in Southern Minnesota on Wednesday, March 5, 2025 was, “Hunker Down.”

6. Good Earth Village rural Spring Valley is planning on more hammocks for their campers in 2025. It is the sleeping-in rage!!
