Time for Punxsutawney Phil Jr. to take over

Genie and I attended the Celebration of the Life of Les Anderson on Friday, February 21, 2025 at Salem Lutheran Church in Albert Lea.

It was our pleasure to enjoy many good times over the years with Les and wife Lois. The singing events, the bus rides, activities at Good Earth Village Spring Valley, Minnesota, political topics, laughing at and with each other. Thanks, Les, for the memories.

We listened to son Doug and his great humor telling stories of father and son, plus his singing of “The Lord's Prayer.” Lois, you had your hands full with those two!! To you, I say, “A job well done!!”

Notice to all you fisherman: It's that time of the year to be sure you're fishing legally. Different lakes have different rules for when it is open for fishing and when it is closed. Even the same lake can be open or closed depending where you are fishing. (Border Lakes are a good example.)

An easy law to follow is: Don't leave any trash on the lake ice. In some cases the DNR have a picture of where your fish house was on the lake, so they just might know the guilty party by the license in the picture of the house.

Should friends be given permission to use your fish house and leave trash on the ice, two things might happen: 1. You now have former friends. 2. You will pay the fine for the trash the former friends left on the ice.

There is a time when son steps into dad's shoes and takes over to the best of son's ability. Such was the case this year in the Pennsylvania family of Phil the groundhog. Phil Jr. wasn't quite ready to step into Phil Sr. shoes. Phil Jr. just got a little mixed up in his forecast. The prediction should have been bye-bye winter starting Sunday, February 23, 2025.  

The Punxsutawney's Phil family knows all good parents will forgive like their parents did!!

March is one busy month in many of our lives, for example:

The entire month is getting ready for the Twins baseball 2025 season.

March 3: Fat Tuesday at Mardi Gras in New Orleans, Louisiana.

March 4: The 1st day of Mardi Gras in New Orleans, Louisiana.

March 5: Ash Wednesday the 1st day of Lent.

March 9: Daylight savings begins.

March 14: Full Moon.

March 17: St. Patrick's Day.

March 20: 1st day of Spring.

March 33: Ole thinks about only 33 more days til he doesn't wear long johns under his bib overalls.

Worldly things that worldly people like you should know.

1. There are “Dog blood banks” in parts of the U.S.A. Your dog may donate and receive blood if eligible.

2. Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) is in the process of moving their corporate headquarters to Texas. Will they then become Texas Fried Chicken (TFC)??

3. An altar guild at a Lutheran Church can host a fabulous Valentine's brunch. How do I know? Because Genie and I attended the fabulous brunch on Sunday, February 23 at Cross of Glory Lutheran Church in Hartland, Minnesota.
