F.R.O.G. Valentine’s party set for Feb. 8

By now most of you readers know that the F.R.O.G. Valentine's Party with Pizza and Norwegian Bingo, scheduled for Saturday evening, February 8th, 2025 to be held at Central Freeborn Lutheran Church Rural Albert Lea, has been canceled.
The people planning on attending are asked to give at least the cost of attending to a California Fire Relief Charity of their choice ($7.50 per person or $15.00 per family). If you are a Thrivent member - Thrivent will match a minimum of one dollar for every two dollars you give up to $500,000.
I am convinced man is the cause of many climate changes. I am thinking of the weather in particular. The wind, rain, snowfall, temperature seem to be setting new records on a yearly basis.
I am convinced man is on average living longer. On the flip side, I am convinced man is dying younger of many diseases and also more frequently of certain diseases.
I am certain, as a man just turning another set of Double digits in age (88), mankind is working on correcting the problems he has created.
This winter will be another short winter for fishing through the ice. First the lakes were not covered with ice, then the lakes were not safe because of ice heaves, some in excess of a foot in height.
With the Litter Law, almost nothing can be left on the ice; your safe bet is to leave nothing even while you're inside your fish house fishing. Common sense should cover most situations. For example, don't cut a hole with your chainsaw and then leave the block of ice on the ice. Common sense will tell you to know the laws of the lake you are fishing on.
Genie and I are interested in renting a fish house a time or two either on St. Olaf or Beaver lake this winter. Call 1-507-373-8655 if your fish house is a possibility “with safe ice.”
Did you get the weather forecast from February 2nd? You know when “Phil in Pennsylvania says,” six more weeks of winter if it is sunny or an early spring if it is cloudy.
Speaking of events in February: Friday, February 14. This is a classic example of a two-way street. Monday, February 17 is President's Day. I can't find February 29 on my calendar. (It was on my calendar last year!!)
The following is how a local described the cold:
1. It was so cold you had to drive your car at least 5 miles before the tires went from square to round.
2. It was so cold the water on area lakes froze with cracks in it.
3. It was so cold, in order to talk on your cell phone, it had to be in your microwave with both the cell phone and microwave on.
