An insider’s look at the NRHEG mock crash

My experience with the mock crash was different from others because I was in it instead of watching it. Eight of us were volunteers who played roles during the process. The people involved were Jayden Tonkin, Jade Bauldry, Violette Botten, Hazel Botten, Orion Rider, Laila Schmidt, Winter Pederson, and Ian Riskadhal. About an hour before the crash, we each got assigned an emotion and memory of what happened. I was in the backseat of the van along with Jayden next to me, then Laila and Orion in the front seats. Winter, Ian, Violette, and Hazel were in the car. We put makeup on parts of our bodies that were supposed to be injured. I had the least amount of damage, so I only had a few bruises on my face and cuts on my arms. Once everyone else got all of their makeup on, we walked out to the crash scene where a car with the windshield all broken out crashed into the side of a van in a gravel lot across from the school. We each got into position to show how we ended up in the car after we collided. Then everyone in the school came out to watch the aftermath of a car crash and the way it would be handled in real life. Not long after everyone was grouped around the area, the ambulance showed up to help us. Ian’s dead body was covered up and Orion was pulled out of the van to get put in an ambulance to be checked on after not responding to them. The other ambulance members talked to me and Jayden, helping us out and gathering as much information as they could. They put a neck brace on me and walked me to the ambulance to sit down. I heard Winter screaming that she did not kill Ian as he was carried away. I was then put in another ambulance to be checked for any other injuries and eventually taken away to the hospital. 

 

This mock crash was supposed to hopefully teach young drivers and riders to be careful about who they drive with and how they drive. It is not okay to be under the influence while driving as it can result in terrible crashes that can hurt not only you and your passengers, but others on the road as well. This was a scary sight despite the fact it was not real and if I was actually in this position, I would be terrified. I hope everyone takes the responsibilities of driving into consideration and thinks of it whenever they step into a vehicle knowing they shouldn’t.
