NRHEG hosts annual Veterans Day program

Hundreds of students, faculty and local community members gathered for the annual NRHEG Veterans Day Program at the high school gymnasium in New Richland on Monday afternoon at 1:30 p.m.
The event, hosted by the NRHEG Student Ambassadors and music department began with a flag procession led by members of the VFW.
The pledge of allegiance was followed by the playing of the ‘Star Spangled Banner.’
High School Principal Grant Berg welcomed those in attendance before handing off the program to master of ceremonies, student ambassador Chloe Stork.
Stork introduced elementary principal Craig Kopetzki to share a few words on the meaning of Veterans Day.
Kopetzki said the day was special for him, as well as all those in attendance.
“My family recognizes the service of my sister, a retired master gunnery sergeant in the Marine Corps along with her husband, currently a captain in the Marines,” Kopetzki said. “Yesterday marked the 249th birthday of the United States Marine Corps, celebrating their longevity of service and sacrifice. America has long stood as the ideal of hope and opportunity, and few embody that spirit more than the members of our armed forces.
“All of our veterans are part of an unbroken chain of brave and selfless patriots who have served our country with honor and made tremendous sacrifices so that we may live free,” Kopetzki concluded. ““On this day, and throughout the year, may we sustain their lasting contributions to our nation's progress and carry forward their sacrifice by building a future that is stronger, safer, and freer for all.”
Following the speech, the junior high choir performed “To Those Who Serve.”
Sierra Fish and Faith Phillips read the “Veterans Day” and “Veteran’s Day Tribute” poems.
The 7th-12 grade concert band performed “My Country Tis of Thee.”
Izley Boerner led the Veteran Recognition. As the choir played a medley of representative military themes, members of each branch were recognized.
The ceremonial flag folding followed.
Caralee Koopal read “Freedom Isn’t Free.”
Those in attendance observed “Taps.”
The program concluded a little after 2 p.m.
