Area city mayor and council filings close

Area filings for election to city and county elected positions closed last week. 

 

Many candidates are running. Notably, Waseca County Commissioner Douglas Christopherson has a challenger for his seat, John Donahue. Christopherson was first elected in 2016. He represents New Richland, Waldorf and the surrounding townships: Alton, Freedom, Vivian, Byron, New Richland and Otisco. 

 

In Freeborn County, Commisioner Chair Brad Edwin, representing District 1, which includes Hartland, Manchester and Freeborn, is facing a challenger, Julie Ackland. Edwin defeated Ackland by about 500 votes in the 2022 election. 

 

John Forman is not seeking re-election to Freeborn County Commissioner in District 3 representing Geneva and Hollandale. Lukas Severson is running unopposed. 

 

The city of Ellendale does not have its county commissioner up for election this year.
