Ferguson sworn in as mayor, area filings for office

Janda Ferguson, 43, was sworn in as interim Mayor of New Richland during Monday night's city council meeting. Ferguson was first appointed to the New Richland city council, filling a vacant position in February of 2023. She also serves on the local Economic Development Authority. 

 

Ferguson will serve out the remainder of what was originally Chad Neitzel’s term as mayor. Following Neitzel’s resignation, due to his moving out of town, Loren Skelton also resigned his position and is rumored to be moving as well.

 

Ferguson has filed to run for mayor. As of 2 p.m. Tuesday, no other candidates had filed for the open, 2-year term.

 

Many candidates are running for the other two open council seats currently held by Ryan Gehrke and Jody Wynnemer, along with another special election seat to fill the seat previously held by Ferguson. 

 

Running for the two 4-year city council positions are: Gehkre, Matthew Economy, Sam Genelin, Brandy Jacobson, Robert Swenson, Melissa Thompson and Joshua Warke.

 

Running for the special election to fill the remaining 2-year council seat are: Jacob Naser, Christina Petsinger and Wynnemer.
