May 24 declared Poppy day in New Richland

The City of New Richland declared May 24, 2024 as Poppy Day. All area citizens are asked to pay tribute to those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the name of freedom by wearing the Memorial Poppy.

 

The red poppy is a nationally recognized symbol of sacrifice worn by Americans since World War 1 to honor those who served and died for our country in all wars. It reminds Americans of the sacrifices made by our veterans while protecting our Freedoms. Led by the American Legion Auxiliary, each year members of the American Legion Family make available these red poppies with a request that the person accepting the poppy donate to support the Auxiliary's veteran outreach programs as well as supporting the future of veterans, active-duty military personnel and their families.

 

Locally, members of the New Richland Legion Auxiliary will place containers where they can donate and receive a poppy in area business places. Wear your poppy to the Memorial Day program on Monday, May 27th - 11 a.m. at the Secondary school gymnasium, followed by a lunch prepared and served by the NRHEG culinary students.
