Eight compete at art competition

Eight art students from NRHEG took their artworks to a section art competition at Mountain Meadow in Morgan, MN on April 17, 2024. Among the students, five pieces garnered a “superior” rating and four the rating of “excellent.” Of the group, two were chosen to go on to represent NRHEG at the state show which took place May 11: Madisyn Ferguson in photography and Hope Nielsen in drawing.

 

The students who attended section competition were freshman Khaiden Madson, whose drawing using pastels received a rating of “excellent”; sophomore Ava Schember, whose entry in photography was rated “excellent”; Junior Madisyn Ferguson, whose entry in photography was given a “superior” rating; junior Brady Koopal, whose entry in photography also garnered a “superior” rating. Seniors who participated were Annabelle Petsinger, with a “superior” rating in painting; Hope Nielsen with a rating of “excellent” in both photography and sculpture, and “superior” in both painting and drawing; and Peyton Curtis, who received a “superior” rating in the category of ceramics.

 

The Visual Arts State Festival, held at the Perpich Center, was a one-day show with artwork delivery, set-up, and take-down all on May 11. After a viewing of the works, an awards ceremony was held.

 

Ferguson’s photography project and Nielsen’s pastel portrait were displayed. Both artists were recognized for their achievements in art and both received the spotlight award during their section showing.

 

“All of the students worked hard,” said Cynthia Gail, NRHEG art teacher. “These students are truly amazing and should be congratulated on their work ethic. It takes a lot of hard work to get an excellent or superior rating.

 

Gail gave a glowing review of the work created by these NRHEG students, saying that, in her time as an art teacher, this was the first time any of her students were recognized at the state level.
