New plow purchased, city wide cleanup postponed

The Ellendale City Council discussed postponing the city’s spring cleanup this year due to complications with dumpster availability this spring during its regular monthly meeting on Thursday, April 11. Due to the fact that Thompson Sanitation is unable to provide dumpsters until June, the council agreed to discuss the possibility of holding the citywide cleanup in September instead. Further details will be discussed at a future date.

 

In the fire department report, an update was given on the new fire hall. Detailed drawings for mechanical, electrical and plumbing are required for USDA approval for the building, and the council approved said drawings to be done by Lindell Engineering, Inc. at a cost of $9,500. The council also approved the transfer of the Fire Department Equipment CD from a 12-month CD at 4% to a nine-month business CD at 4.5%. Purchase requests for freightliner fly wheel repairs, along with other repairs that may need to be performed, at a cost of $7,500, as well as two toolboxes for the rescue truck at a cost of up to $3,000 were approved.

 

In the maintenance report, the following items were approved: $30,000 down and $500 one-time documentation and processing fee for a lease purchase on a new snow plow for the city, and the Lessee Resolution for the snow plow.

 

In codification, a notice of violation and warning administrative citation were approved to be sent to a property owner with multiple lots that have not been mowed in Country View.

 

In the clerk’s report, the council approved the rental of portable restrooms during Ellendale Days at a cost of $420.

 

In unfinished business, it was noted that a grant totaling $3,440 was approved, to be applied towards the remaining community hall remodeling share. A County EMS Tabletop Meeting has been scheduled for April 13 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the community center.

 

In new business, Resolutions 2024-13, accepting a donation of money from the Ellendale Joint Ambulance Service for a clothing stipend for emergency responders for third quarter 2023 in the amount of $1,320, and 2024-14, accepting a donation of money from the Ellendale Joint Ambulance Service for a clothing stipend for emergency responders for first quarter 2024 in the amount of $1,560, were approved.
