A steady stream of visitors appeared at an open house at the Ellendale fire hall the afternoon of Sunday, Oct. 11. Firefighters were on hand to offer tours, answer questions, and serve free hot dogs. On the street nearby, children were offered the chance–with adult support–to hold a fire hose and experience the pressures it exerts while in use.
Fire chief Logan Busho explained that the event, which took place just after the final day of Fire Prevention Week 2026, was designed to create an inviting atmosphere that included free food, children’s activities, department-related gifts, and a chance to become acquainted with the new facility.
Milo Dahlin, owner of Schem’s Kettle Corn, offered bags of kettle corn in exchange for a free will donation, with all proceeds going to benefit the fire department.
“I think it went really well,” observed Busho regarding the event. “We got a lot of good feedback and answered a lot of questions. I feel like we had a good crowd for a warm October day.”
