Feeling proud to be an American

Sometimes your fellow human beings can make you proud to be an American!!

One such event occurred this summer in Albert Lea at the Freeborn County Fairgrounds.

The decision was made to remove all the Dutch elm trees along the fairgrounds border on Bridge Street in Albert Lea. The trees were cut down and hauled away. Why was this done ? It was to prevent Dutch Elm disease. (Who picked up the tab for this?? I don't know.)

After the trees were cut down and the stumps removed, the fairgrounds looked very barren.

In our driving by and looking at the fence posts in a line, Genie and I hoped for a solution to improve the appearance.

AHA! A lightbulb idea was to line the fence with OLD GLORY flags, but how to pay for all of this??

A group of locals put their money up front to solve the cash shortage.

The group of locals formed and called themselves “Patriots for Jesus.” Once the group realized how big a project this was financially, they made that old saying “we’ll get it done” and they did just that. Now for your help- yes you!! “financially.”

That's my story and this old Norwegian is very pleased to be a resident of Albert Lea, Minnesota!!

Please pat your back as you say, “I'm proud to be an American!!”
