A surprise visit from my grandson

This past Sunday I was sitting at home when I was surprised by my youngest grandson Grant stopping by for a visit. I don’t see him very often because he lives in Bloomington and works in Northfield at St. Olaf College. I was sure glad to see him. His Grandma made lunch and asked him to stay. I know that made both Grandma and me happy. He is an amazing grandson, as are all of my grandchildren. He told me that he is getting in shape for a 50-mile marathon that he is going to compete in this fall in Utah. I asked his girlfriend, Maya, if she was going to run with him. She said no way, I am going along on my bike to support him. Smart girl! When Grant was in high school, he ran cross country, played tennis and also played violin in orchestra. One time when we were up at the cabin, he began training for cross country by running down our hill to the lake and then up to the gate and back. He did that three times without taking a break. Meanwhile, my knees were hurting, and I was starting to sweat just by watching him.
Until next time: I can never brag enough about all four of my grandsons and what they have accomplished. I feel it is important to me that I show my pride in them. They are all outdoorsmen in one form or the other. I also have two beautiful granddaughters of whom I am also very proud.
I am no weatherman, but it looks as if we are going to have a little break in the heat for a few days, a little hot streak and then lower temperatures again by the following week.
I am looking forward to August when the days are still sort of warm and the nights cool down nicely. It is one of my favorite months to fish.
I have to admit that the hot weather has kept me mostly indoors for the last few weeks. I hope that I can get out and enjoy some nicer weather in the following weeks.
Please take the time to remember our troops that are serving now and those that have served before them. They are the reason that we have all of the Freedoms that we enjoy today.
