Council handles seasonal business

During their meeting the evening of Monday, April 6, members of the Hartland city council learned the city’s fire department did not have any calls for the month of March. It was also reported that the number one truck, which had been temporarily out of service, is now repaired and fully operational. Jan Kalbow, a concerned Hartland resident, asked about the flushing of the city hydrants and Andy Flatness of Hartland maintenance replied, “We flush them every spring and every fall.” He explained a special one-way valve is used while filling the fire trucks in order to pass inspection.

 

The clerk’s office will open April 25 for golf cart ($10) registration: Pets are also required to be registered. The cost is $10 for neutered pets and $30 for non-neutered.

 

Only one estimate has been received to paint the new city hall. The council would like more estimates before they decide. Currently the wiring is being completed. Installation of sheet rock will follow.

 

The filter media at the city water plant was replaced. Maintenance worker Flatness observed, “The grass is really coming in out at the ball field, I fertilized and seeded it last fall and have zero complaints.”

 

During general announcements, it was shared that there will be a Spring Salad Luncheon at the Hartland Evangelical Lutheran Church from 11 a.m. through 1 p.m., Saturday, April 18. Adults are $12, 10 and under $5. The church is located at 404 Broadway St. in Hartland.
