Looking forward to visiting the cabin

I am looking forward to visiting the cabin once again. For some reason (snow) it seems like a long winter. Thanks to my two sons, I haven’t had to shovel one scoop of snow. I have to say that they take very good care of Mom and Dad.

 

I can’t wait until I am able to be sitting in the cabin watching the birds and the other critters that visit the feeders. When we first bought this parcel of land, it was nothing but trees and more trees. It took a lot of time and work to get it to what it is today.

 

I like to think of it as a cozy place to spend time with nature. We built this cabin while I was still gainfully employed. It took a few years to get it where it is today. The cabin is still not where we want it to be, but it is getting there. We did most of the work with the help of my sons, grandsons and a few friends. There is something satisfying about clearing the land and building a cabin mostly with family.

 

This is not a perfect cabin, but to me, it is. Still no running water and our electricity comes from the electric pole 100 yards away. It is an unwritten rule that owning a cabin is an ongoing process.

 

According to the DNR map, there are still about 12-15 inches of snow on the ground where our cabin is situated. It will be a little wait until I can venture north to the cabin. Even when the snow is almost gone, our driveway will be snow-packed for a while longer.

 

Although there is always something cozy about being in the woods surrounded by snow. The calm days with snow adorning the pines always brings about a peaceful feeling.

\ Sitting in the cabin with the wood stove blazing with its intense heat, warms the cabin and brings about that fuzzy feeling inside.

 

When I look at the pictures that I have taken of the inside of the cabin, it is the next best thing to being there. I keep telling myself that it is almost time to start gathering a few things that I want to take with me when I make the first trip, I know it is premature to be thinking that far ahead, so maybe I can start organizing my tackle boxes instead. That is my other remedy for cabin fever. I do have some lures that have landed the “big one,” but have never left the tackle box, most fishermen will know what I mean.

 

Until next time: Make sure to check your reels to see if the line is still good. It is also a good idea to check your lures and hooks to make sure they don’t have any leftover worms or minnows from last season’s adventures. That is me speaking from past experiences.

 

Please take the time to remember our troops that are serving now and those that have served before them. They are the reason that we have all of the Freedoms that we enjoy today.
