Ellendale fire hall work on schedule

During their meeting the evening of Thursday, Feb. 12, the members of the Ellendale city council approved spending $8,500 for new, repositionable lockers and $900 for two new helmets for the city fire department. Construction on the town’s new fire hall is reportedly on schedule; sheet rock is currently being installed. Fire department members also described an upcoming practice exercise, a March 21 controlled house burn near Hope alongside the Blooming Prairie fire department.

 

City maintenance leader Josh Otto reported a leak from the well head of the city’s south well would be fixed the following week. Otto was also commended for his assistance in Hollandale; the town had six water main breaks in six days because of a gap in pipe insulation in the water tower which caused major freezing. But Hollandale has since gotten its water back in no small part thanks to Otto.

 

A city codification violation on Eighth Avenue East is waiting for law enforcement to deliver the complaint. On Sixth Avenue East, a March 5 hearing date has been set.

 

Wigham Trucking Street Sweeping was approved for $1,895 for future services this coming summer.

 

The city arranged for its 2026 audit to be carried out by the law office of Hill, Benda, Skov & Bernau. A resolution was passed accepting donation money from the Ellendale Joint Ambulance for third and fourth quarter 2025. A new “internal control policy” was passed with the intent of giving the city clerk more flexibility when working with bank payment control. The council accepted a $100 donation to the fire department from the Reese family, and authorized a donation of money from the Ellendale Fire Relief Association.
