Spending time with the family is the best

We finally had our last Christmas of the season. It was good to spend time with some of the grandsons, their significant others and our great granddaughter, Avery. It was a fun day and I believe that everyone had a good time.

 

I am really wanting to get back to doing a little painting. I have been putting it off for a few years, but I am telling myself it is time. I’d guess that I got out of it when my dad passed away. He was my biggest supporter, and we would always exchange ideas.

 

I spend a lot of time thinking about when I will get back up to the cabin. This is something that helps me get through the doldrums of winter. I sometimes picture myself on a lake making a cast while a fish breaks the surface to take my lure. I am actually reliving something that has happened many times over the years.

 

I have been hearing some good reports of people catching fish on various area lakes. So far, I haven’t heard about anyone going trough the ice in our area. With the weather that we have been experiencing this past week, I don’t see any “thin ice” in the near future.

 

Snow depth in Northern Minnesota is a little iffy in some areas of the north country, depending on the area. According to the DNR snow depth map, most area have 8”-12”, but rain in some area, has made it difficult to tell for sure which areas have good snow.

 

Until next time: When I was a kid, my parents would take me to St. Olaf Lake for the annual fishing contest. It was always fun, but for me it wasn’t very productive. I would usually, if I was lucky, catch one or two small perch for my efforts. That is probably why I have never been overly excited about ice fishing. Although I have been ice fishing a time or two with my grandson, Trevor, my childhood skill set stayed with me.

 

Please take the time to remember our troops that are serving now and those that have served before them. They are the reason that we have all of the freedoms that we enjoy today.
