Primary election March 5

The Ellendale City Council approved a quote of $169,410 for a new water tank and apparatus to refit the old fire department tanker truck during its regular monthly meeting on Thursday, Feb. 8. A $7,550 quote for sandblasting and painting the truck cab was also approved. The council agreed to take out a loan from Keen Bank for the project for $100,000 to be paid over ten years, with a $70,000 down payment from the truck equipment fund.

 

In the maintenance report, revisions to the part-time maintenance job description were approved. The storm water pond, which has not been draining, was discussed, and the council approved cleaning of the pond and replacement of broken tiles in the base at a cost of $10,000. Also approved were up to $5,600 to backwash the tank at the treatment plant, up to $600 for materials to build barricades for the maintenance department, and $1,529.60 for a transducer and panel enclosure seal for the main lift station.

 

In the clerk’s report, it was noted that the Presidential Primary Election will take place on March 5. The city’s polling place is at the Community Center, and election hours are 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. The council approved a motion to pay head election judges $18/hour for the 2024 elections while keeping other election judges at $16/hour.

 

In unfinished business, the council approved the transfer of $20,000 from the General Fund to a 12-month Business CD at the rate of 4.75% as a Water Fund CD.

 

In new business, it was noted that the date for this year’s National Night Out is set for Aug. 6. Painting of the exterior of the community center was approved at a cost of $4,450, and edits to 11.0 Holiday Pay Personnel Policy were also approved. The meeting adjourned at 8:54 p.m.
