Hartland city council rejects levy increase

Members of the Hartland city council determined during their regular Dec. 1 meeting that the city will not increase its property tax levy for 2026. The levy has remained the same since 2020. Council members expressed pleasure that Hartland will not be audited this year, which saves its residents $10,000.

 

Also determined during the meeting is that the new community center, with construction expected to be complete in spring, will be the polling place for the 2026 elections. The address for the center will be 513 Broadway Street.

 

Xcel Energy has been shutting off electricity for parts of Hartland during the week to lay updated lines, it is believed they will be finished by Dec. 5.

 

It was learned that Sunday Dec. 7 was to be very cold during Santa Claus's visit, so they moved the location from the outdoor gazebo to the post office/community center. There has been an unused telephone line in the kitchen of the post office, it has not been in use for some time and will be disconnected.

 

A state inspection showed a vacuum/air release valve was discharging directly into a mop basin at the Hartland treatment facility without an approved air gap of 18 inches. This created a backflow hazard which could’ve spread contaminants. This issue was corrected on Oct. 17 and has since been state approved.  

 

The next Hartland City Council meeting will be Monday, Jan. 5 at 6:30 p.m.
