Freeborn Legion Auxiliary updates

The Freeborn American Legion Auxiliary #552 met at the Freeborn American Legion Hall on November 8, 2025. President Sandy Anderson welcomed us and led us in the pledges. The Charter was undraped in memory of Viola Krogsgaard, Marian Mithun, and Bonnie Schuster. The Secretary's Report and the Treasurer's Report were read and accepted. A motion was made and seconded to donate $50 to the Hospice Tree Project in memory of deceased Auxiliary members.

 

Other bills to pay were approved as follows: the Per Capita Dues, the District Dues, the Bonding fee and to Sandy Anderson for coffee shop supplies, Veterans Day cards for next year, and juice. Correspondence was read.

 

Membership report was stated that we lost some members. We have 51 paid members and our goal is set at 53. We are still waiting for 3 members to renew. 

 

President Sandy did send "Veteran's Day" cards to members of the Freeborn American Legion. Sandy has filed the taxes for our organization. 

 

We went through the list of organizations that benefit from the morning Coffee Shop which is held Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday from 8:00 to 10:00. The Coffee Shop is in the Freeborn City/Township building and sponsored by the Freeborn American Legion Auxiliary.

 

Since our meeting followed our Community Coffee Time, a discussion was held on how it went and if we would do it again next year. It was a little different this year because members of the First District were invited, along with the Community members. A nice discussion was held among the District members on how to encourage the younger generation to become members and participate in the organization. It was decided to hold the Community Coffee time again next year.

 

Everything is in place for our December 7 events that are held at the Freeborn American Legion, which start out with a visit from Santa at 3:00, during which the Auxiliary will serve cookies, coffee, and juice. Following Santa approximately at 4:30, there will be the Hospice ceremony with the reading of the names and the lighting of the Hospice Tree. A Community potluck follows, with Bingo starting around 6:00 to 8:00, which ends the evening.
