A new protein shake and energizing tea shop, Kick it in Gear, has made its way to the small town of Ellendale, enticing customers of all ages to come to enjoy the shop's nice, comfortable, homey vibe. The owner's personal book library invites customers to feed the soul as well as the body, and books can also be donated.
Located at 209 5th Avenue, the shop made its debut on December 16, 2023 with a soft opening to welcome the community. Paula Conklin, owner of the shop, has done a fantastic job putting personal touches on the building, while showing good sense in integrating them into the setting, such as leaving the beautiful original ceiling.
Conklin is originally from Wisconsin, and her husband from Blooming Prairie. They came to the area because of family, her husband's job, and the love of small communities. On top of being the shop owner, Conklin is also a mother and works at the Ellendale school during the week.
Talking to Conklin about why she started the business reveals just how much she loves her job. She explained that she wanted to express a healthy lifestyle. The shakes are full of protein that people need on a daily basis, and can be used as a healthy meal replacement.
Since their opening, the shop has received five-star reviews for its delicious protein shakes and energizing teas, Some of the most popular drinks are the Ellendale Sunrise energizing tea and the Fruity Pebbles protein shake. Soon there will be new drinks on the menu, including a protein tea and a few tasty snacks.
Conklin hopes to make deliveries available, and plans to extend the shop's hours in the summer. Currently, the shop offers community activities and special events for everyone including children. Conklin has put her own twist on these creative events, one being Paint Night at Kick It In Gear, which will be held Tuesday, February 27th at 6 p.m.
The shop offers something for our four-legged friends, too, as Conklin sells collars and leashes. Coming from a small local shop in Oregon, these leashes and collars are recycled, as eco friendly as they are adorable.
Open every day of the week, Monday through Friday; 7 a.m. - 9:30 a.m. and Saturdays and Sundays, 9 a.m. - 12 p.m., Kick it in Gear, with all of its tasty beverages with tantalizing names, will definitely have folks stopping in to try out the sweet menu.
