Autumn colors paint the countryside

I always enjoy the fall weather and right now is about as perfect as it gets. I like the thought of warm days and cool nights; it just doesn’t get any better than that. I know that a lot of folks might think of fall being the next step for winter. I just want to embrace the season and savor the moment.
I can remember just before school started my mother would take me to town to look for clothes. I would get two pair of pants, a couple of shirts, socks, and underwear. When I was younger, it seemed like a big deal, and as I grew older, I still appreciated it. For some reason, the thrill was slowly fading away.
When I was in grade school at Hammer School, our teacher, Mrs. Nelson, had her husband Juel come to school and give a presentation. It was in the evening, so the parents were also invited.
Mr. Nelson showed slides of one of his fishing trips to Canada. That was right up my alley because I loved fishing and had always had dreams about the outdoors and visiting the wilderness of Canada. That is one dream that has never come to fruition.
When people ask me if I’ve ever fished in Canada, I tell them I haven’t fished all of the lakes in Minnesota yet.
Although time has changed many things, my love for the outdoors has never wavered. I learned to appreciate nature at a young age and now my sons and grandsons have carried on with that tradition. Whenever I see them, it makes me feel so very proud. The best thing is that they still give hugs even as grownups; that’s what family is all about.
Until next time: The fall colors are starting to appear in our area of the state. In northern Minnesota, the colors are at about 50% - 75%. It would be a good time to take a trip north to enjoy the colors. Our old neighbors who lived next door would take a trip to Gooseberry Falls every fall.
In southern Minnesota, it is worth taking a day trip to the Mississippi River and driving along the river to enjoy the colors.
