NRHEG Color Run F'run'draiser

NRHEG is holding a second annual one-mile Color Run, Walk or Stroll event in Ellendale on Saturday, Oct. 11 at 5 p.m. The fun, family-friendly event is a fundraiser for the community inclusive playground. Participants can walk, run, stroll, skip or somersault through a course and get blasted by color dust along the route. Event check-in will start at 4 p.m. and the race will begin at 5 p.m.
There will be music, face painting, a food truck and more to help collect donations for the inclusive playground. Parking is available in the north school lot, football field, and street. The registration fee is $30 per person and includes a t-shirt and race entry. Registration can be done online or by scanning the QR code and is due by Sept. 26.
NRHEG physical education teacher and coach Wendy Schultz explains fundraising events have been underway for the past two years.
“Through donations, fundraisers, and grants we have been able to raise $84,000 and complete the first phase,” she said.
The first phase included purchasing and installing all pieces of equipment, except one. The second phase will be purchasing the last piece of equipment called the Sway Fun Glider. There is ample room for two wheelchairs plus two large benches for plenty of other passengers. Schultz said the cost to purchase and install it is about $43,000 with about $31,000 already raised.
Once phase two is complete, phase three will begin, which will be putting either turf or poured-in-place (PIP) rubber. The cost of phase three is approximately $84,000 for turf and $112,000 for PIP.
