Time for the great soup and dessert supper

A reminder of the annual soup and dessert supper held at Central Freeborn Lutheran Church Monday, September 22, 2025 from 4-7 p.m. The proceeds will benefit food for backpacks to help childhood hunger in Albert Lea and Life Center of Freeborn County.

 

We are planning a crowd as both recipients are most certainly in need of financial help. 

Wild rice, chili, and potato chicken noodle soup will be served (also gluten-free soup) with bread and dessert, even refills of the soup. All this will be topped off with dessert. (I have key lime pie reserved for myself!!) 

 

If you drove by or stopped at Beaver Lake, you saw the closed 'til further notice sign regarding Beaver Lake. The closing is until the lake water returns to safe levels. Hopefully the lake will be open for recreational use before you read this article in the Star Eagle September 11, 2025. (This has happened before with the cause being high levels of E. coli in the lake water.) When it happened while we lived at Beaver Lake, it caused itching in humans. Even our dog was one itching critter!!

 

In all of my years of deer hunting in the Walker, Minnesota area, I've seen only one all black wolf. It was walking towards the road. I was standing and trying to figure out where I was going to hunt. I was standing still. It didn't hear me. The sun shone on the black wolf, creating a beautiful animal. 

 

In doing research by the voyagers wolf project, they caught and collared a black wolf. The collar was a tracking device which will help gain info on wolves, especially the black wolf. 

As part of my annual physical, I am required to take an X-Ray of my bladder to be read by a doctor. This was done at Mayo in Owatonna. (Allina Hospital is part of the same building in Owatonna.) 

 

After the X-ray I saw Dr. Gretchen, a Mayo doctor. As Dr. Gretchen walked into the room I was waiting in, I said to myself, “I think I know you, but I cant figure out how.” 

 

Dr. Gretchen gave me the good results of no changes; the bladder test results were ok. 

 

We chitchat and I asked, “Where are you originally from? “ She replied my mom is from Hartland originally, a daughter of Harvery and Iris Bell, my dad, Terry Anderson, is from Freeborn. A retired teacher. 'Twas then I realized how I knew Dr. Gretchen as I was the AAL (now Thrivent) agent for both parents. Small world!!

 

P.s. Dr. Gretchen confessed she had written in my chart “Insurance agents”???

Do you know why all roads lead you to Central Freeborn Lutheran Church Monday p.m. September 22, 2025? Because 4 to 7 p.m. there will even be tall people to help you park while you eat and bat at the breeze.

 

Yes, folks, it is time for the great Fall Festival “Soup and dessert super.”
