Brent Possin

Tragic loss, local farmer dies in Mexico

Area farmer and businessman Brent Possin, 50, died on Saturday, January 27, during a vacation trip to Cancun. He, his wife Lianne, local farmer Tyler Huber and others were at breakfast together at their resort on Friday when Brent suddenly collapsed. Friends and bystanders performed cardiopulmonary respiration (CPR), starting his heart a number of times while awaiting the arrival of an ambulance from the nearest hospital, which was 40 minutes away.

According to information posted on a Go Fund Me page, after arriving at the hospital, those with Brent were informed he would be given no care until the estimated cost of his treatment was paid in advance. Total expenses exceeded $100,000.

The Go Fund Me page was started by Huber, with the intent that funds raised would be used to help meet medical costs and transport Brent home. As of Monday evening, nearly 400 donations had been received, showing about $54,000 raised toward a goal of $100,000.

Brent is described by numerous people as an “outgoing, lovable person always willing to lend a helping hand.” Huber stated that “He was always quick with a joke. People gravitated toward his personality.”

Brent’s farm, operated by the Possin family for at least four generations, is located north of Highway 30 about five miles west of New Richland.

Brent and Lianne have three adult children, Kyra, Bayli, and Braxtyn. Funeral arrangements are pending with Dennis Steffel Omtvedt chapels. See full obituary in this week’s edition.
