Town and Country Garden Club accoplishments

During their October meeting, members of New Richland’s Town and Country Garden Club discussed steps it will take to “clean up” the garden group members' care for a planting area along Highway 30. Two work sessions were planned: one to remove currently dry and dying plants and another to follow after the first hard frost when the heartier plants are also finished for the season.

 

A report by group member Barb Finseth listed expenditures and income and incidentally recalled highlights of the year, which included a plant sale held May 17; the planting of the Hwy. 30 garden on the secondary school’s “Community Service Day” just prior to the end of the school year in June; group gatherings to weed the garden, which ended up taking place about every two weeks; a planting activity led by club members at the New Richland Care Center; the work of Finseth and others caring for the triangular garden near City Hall; the group’s garden tour late in the summer, and a presentation during the September meeting on drying plants.

 

There is no cost or obligation to join the organization, which was established in 1965 and has the motto “Educate, Cultivate, Decorate.” Anyone interested in joining is invited to attend a club meeting; they take place at 6:30 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church the first Monday of each month March through June and September through November.

 

Individuals are also invited to help with club projects whether they are members or not. Information is available from any club member. Co-presidents are Brenda Berg and Stacy Bethke.
