St. Olaf Christmas Festival held Nov. 23

The St. Olaf Christmas Festival was on Saturday, Nov. 23 at its new location, 9633 SW 128 Street , west of New Richland. There were three vendors present with hot chocolate, candy canes or coffee being served; the space was small but the smiles were big.

 

From wooden American flags to snowmen and Christmas trees, anything season related was offered for sale by vendors Dawn Raatz, Dorine Smith and Darren Wagner.

 

According to Raatz, “We wanted to bring people together and share our projects, have some snacks and maybe spread some Christmas cheer.” Raatz, who works with the NRHEG school age care program has been busy: She was in Elysian last week for a vendor show, and also previously took part in a show in Manchester.

 

Christmas music and an image of a fire burning on a large TV in the corner helped set the mood. Vendor Dorine Smith commented, “I want to wish everyone a beautiful Thanksgiving and a wonderful Christmas.” Another project for Smith has been deer hunting; she said she hasn’t had much luck so far this season, but added, “I hope to get a deer when I’m muzzle loading this weekend.”

 

Vendor Darren Wagner, who was being assisted by a few of his children including Danny, Christina, Marnie and Maddy, said he enjoys the chance to chat with people and share his work at vendor shows.

 

Raatz wanted everyone to know there will be another vendor show right after Thanksgiving at the Ellendale Elementary School, “There will be upwards of 20 vendors and all proceeds will go towards the new playground at the Ellendale school. It will be on Saturday, 30 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.”
