Six candidates running for four open school board seats

The terms of four out of seven NRHEG school board members expire at the end of 2026. Incumbents Amy Ihrke and Pat Theuer have indicated an interest in remaining on the board for the four-year term which runs from 2027 to 2031. Incumbents Rick Schultz and Aaron Phillips have not filed for reelection.

The school board held a brief meeting on Aug. 7 to follow through on the steps needed to ensure the six candidates who filed for the four seats appear on the November ballots in all three counties the school district extends across: Freeborn, Steele, and Waseca.

During the filing period which ended in July, six candidates indicated their interest in running for the four seats: Nick Budach, Troy Buendorf, Amy Ihrke, John Misgen, Justin Schlaak, and Pat Theuer.

On the ballot, voters will be instructed to vote for up to four of the candidates; the option of a write-in is also available.
