About twenty people attended a Sesame Street Party for ages 2-6, hosted by the New Richland Public Library on Monday, Jan. 22. Brianna Bleaker, children's librarian, handled the event.
The party featured a variety of Sesame Street themed activities focused on gross motor skills, pattern recognition, sorting, story telling, and math, all of which were presented with varying levels of difficulty to suit the skills of the child engaging with the activity. For instance, the most popular game by far was feeding Cookie Monster his chocolate chip cookies. Each cookie had a different number of chocolate chips, and children were encouraged to count them and do simple math problems as they fed them into the Cookie Monster standee. Another activity encouraged children to use Sesame Street puppets to tell their own stories, or to use story prompts provided for inspiration.
