NRHEG band participates in Marching Classic

The NRHEG High School Band went to Waseca this Saturday, September 21st for the annual Waseca Marching Classic. We left for Waseca at 9 am on Saturday morning, even though it was very hot for most of the day, and the heat kind of got to most of our marchers. When we arrived in Waseca, we had a little bit of time before our clinic. Our clinic was from 10-11 and during that time, we had this guy telling us how we could improve our marches so we could hopefully place higher. He gave us some amazing advice and we ended up marching a lot better than when we had first gotten to Waseca. After our clinic, we had about an hour to prepare ourselves for the parade, so that was when we ate lunch, got into our uniforms, and warmed up our instruments. We stepped off at noon for the parade and we had a very simple route. It was a very easy parade to march. The whole parade was only about a quarter of a mile. We were marching for about 45 minutes in total and then we made our way back to the bus before the awards ceremony. We had about a one- or two-block-long judging space, and for the judging space we had the judges on our rights, sitting at this long table, and they watched us as we marched and played our two songs. We played a two-song rotation and just repeated those two songs: Smoke on the Water and the NRHEG School Song. We had 13 band members marching in the Classic, but one of those members was our drum major, Grace Starman, a senior baritone player who has been in the band since she was in 7th grade. But every once in a while, something has to go wrong, so we had a few little hiccups after we finished marching. Some of our marchers overheated in full uniforms and got a little dizzy, but both were ok after a while of sitting and cooling down. We ended up getting 2nd place in our class. We had an amazing day. Even if we were a small band, we had a lot of fun. And it was a very fun Waseca Classic, even with the little hiccups. It was pretty great. We had spent the day doing something most of us loved to do. So that was the day of the Waseca Marching Classic.
