Munson receives Republican Party endorsement

Former State Representative Jeremy Munson (Republican-Lake Crystal) was strongly endorsed Saturday as the Republican candidate for the Minnesota State Senate in District 22. On the first ballot at the Party’s endorsing convention held at the Kato Ballroom, Munson received 90% of the votes cast by Republican delegates from across the district in a two-way race against Michael Woletz, a former mayor of Belle Plaine.

 

”I appreciate the continued, vocal support from conservatives across the district,” Munson stated after receiving the endorsement. “The current condition of Minnesota politics and the unprecedented billions of tax dollars lost to fraud have put us on the national map for all the wrong reasons. We must restore the limited, sensible government that made Minnesota great for past generations and implement strict financial controls over state agencies being used by DFL insiders for personal and political gain.”

 

Munson previously represented area residents in the Minnesota House of Representatives, serving as a strong conservative voice. He is running to succeed current State Senator Rich Draheim, who is not seeking reelection after serving residents of Scott, Rice, Le Sueur, Blue Earth, Watonwan, Faribault, and Martin counties in the new district, redrawn for the 2022 election.

 

“We owe Senator Draheim great respect and appreciation for his many years of leadership and common-sense representation of District 22,” Munson continued. “I look forward to seeking his guidance and expertise, especially on matters critical to communities in our district.”  

 

A closely divided Minnesota Legislature, with a current one-seat DFL majority in the Senate and a 67-67 tie in the House of Representatives, will be dealing with critical issues like declining results among the state’s K-12 students, rampant fraud in state agencies and publicly-funded non-profits, and social concerns including the DFL’s push to allow boys to compete in girls’ sports. After his endorsement, Munson announced that his first goal as a candidate is to work to secure majorities for Republicans in both houses to put Minnesota back on the right track.

 

“I pledge to help Republican candidates win in swing districts this summer and fall, so our party serves in the majority in St Paul. Issues critical to our State’s future, like exposing and ending billions in fraud and holding those responsible accountable, will not be resolved until we do.”
