Hartland council approves new check signer

The city of Hartland held its monthly city council meeting Monday, Feb. 3. There is a new checkbook signer for Hartland, Jodie Reed.

The Fire Department Lawful Gambling fund donated around $60,000 to the city; as had been decided during the January 2024 meeting, the funds were designated for use by the fire department. The department’s report stated the agency had one billable call during January. It was also reported a training had recently taken place, and that the department’s equipment has become dated. A Rochester company has indicated it can replace all the equipment at a cost ranging from $31,000 to $40,000; each firefighter’s pack would cost between $8,500 and $10,000. Council members asked the fire department to seek additional quotes to see whether lower prices are available elsewhere.

The city maintenance department suggested a new border should be put in place around the playground; recommended material is black rubber: installation cost would be just under $5,000.

The department also reported that the cement that was put in near the apartment complex needs to be repoured; the failing material was a recent attempt to repair the walkway, but it was unsuccessful. It was also pointed out during the meeting that the tobacco license for the gas station located along Highway 13 is due for renewal.
