Hartland city council organizes for 2025

The Hartland city council held its first meeting of the year the evening of Monday, Jan. 6. During a very brief session, legally required organizational matters were taken care of. One of the first orders of business was to swear in three council members and the mayor.

To run for city council, a person must be 21 years old and have lived in the city for at least 30 days. Four-year terms of office begin the first Monday in January. On Jan. 6, Lori Routh and Jody Reed were sworn in as council members. Mayor Kelly Routh was sworn in for a two-year term in the leadership role.

During the public forum, city resident and council member Jackie Schlaak expressed her thanks to the members of the volunteer fire department for their quick response time two weeks ago. “They were very good and very professional; it was very appreciated.”

City maintenance official Andy Flatness told council members it will be possible to sustain an ice skating rink if the cold weather keeps up.

Xcel Energy requested to raise rates this year. A portion of Hartland’s power comes from a solar garden and there is a positive return and an earned $1,600 credit this past year.

The bank for Hartland will be Arcadia Bank. The city newspaper will be the NRHEG Star Eagle. City attorney will be Peterson and Holker. Insurance company will be Security Insurance. Treasurer Company is Arrow Accounting. Auditor is Hill, Benda, Skov & Bernau, P.A.

For Liaisons: Acting Mayor will be Matt Eustice. Water/Sewer/Street will be Kyle Reed. Parks Kelly Routh and Fire Department Jackie Schlaak.
