Flood recovery cleanup volunteer day Oct. 4

Local citizens affected by the flood are encouraged to request volunteer help with flood cleanup projects by calling 320-270-3766; volunteers are being invited to come to New Richland on Sunday, Oct 4 beginning at about 8:30 a.m. to provide labor and, when possible, equipment, according to information shared this Monday by city administrator Tyler Lendt.

Requests for assistance will be shared with relief organizations and government agencies, who will sign up using the online tool CrisisCleanup.org. Workers will come ready to help, and–based on the listed requests–bring any useful vehicles or tools at their disposal.

Organizers will select and dispatch volunteers to registered locations based on how well their specifications match the stated needs. For example, groups with trucks will be sent to sites where debris needs to be hauled away.

Area groups or individuals who wish to provide volunteer labor can register themselves using a Google Form at https://forms.gle/D45iEG3eiryPPhMD6. The link also appears on the Waseca Exchange Club Facebook page; the Exchange Club is co-sponsoring the event.

Of plans for the day, Lendt commented, “It’s a chance to make a real difference–one driveway, one basement, one family at a time.”

Those with cleanup needs are advised that the volunteers and their equipment are provided at no charge, but there is no guarantee people will be assigned to any specific site.

Property owners are encouraged to register their needs, since the event may not take place if there are not many requests.
