Farmamerica’s turkey trot returns

(Waseca, Minn.)- Get ready for a morning filled with fun, food, fitness, and some very special feathered guests. Join us at Farmamerica on Friday, November 29th at 10 AM for the second annual walk/run, all-you-can-eat breakfast by Dad’s Belgian Waffles, and the chance to welcome home the National Thanksgiving Turkeys.

 

In a cherished annual tradition dating back to the 1940s, the President of the United States ceremonially pardons a Thanksgiving turkey and kicks off the holiday season. The turkeys are presented to the President by the chairman of the National Turkey Federation; currently John Zimmerman of Southeast Minnesota. Following their special trip to Washington, DC, these lucky birds will return to Minnesota and live out the remainder of their natural lives at Farmamerica. 

 

“We’re excited to welcome the turkeys back to the GreenSeam region where visitors can learn about turkey production in the top producing state and the epicenter of U.S. agriculture,” said Jessica Rollins, Farmamerica’s executive director.

 

“Minnesota is the nation’s leading turkey-producing state, and I am excited to showcase our industry on behalf of the National Turkey Federation. I know that these special birds will continue to be great ambassadors of the U.S. turkey industry to visitors from around the nation at Farmamerica,” said Zimmerman.

 

Last year, Farmamerica rolled out its first Turkey Trot and welcomed almost 150 fun run participants. This year is expected to be even better thanks to the opportunity to enjoy a waffle breakfast and meet the presidential poultry.
