Council holds first meeting of year

During its first meeting of the year on Monday, Jan. 8, the New Richland City Council approved the appointment of two commissioners to the Housing and Redevelopment Authority of New Richland via Resolutions 24-01 and 24-02. Sarah Sundve presented the ambulance report, stating that the New Richland ambulance responded to 152 calls in 2023. The council approved a $20 incentive for ambulance members signing up for 48 hours by the third of each month, a request made in an effort to encourage members to stay involved with the ambulance service.

One former EMT with the ambulance was approved to be rehired, and the report was approved.

The fire department report, submitted in writing, was approved. The police report, also submitted in writing, stated that the NRPD responded to 202 calls for service in December, bringing the total number of calls for 2023 to 1,323. The council approved Chief Bruegger’s attendance at the MN Chiefs of Police Conference in April of this year, and it was noted that Officer Humberto’s resignation was effective Dec. 15. The report was approved.

In new business, the council approved offering a MN Deferred Compensation Plan to employees, updating the city’s website name, and the purchase of a garage door opener at the wastewater treatment plant at a cost of $1,510.

The administrator’s report was presented by City Administrator Tony Martens and approved before the meeting adjourned at 7:11 p.m.
