Blooming Prairie library celebrating five decades

On the first weekend in May, 1976, the city of Blooming Prairie celebrated the Grand Opening of their brand new library. Now, 50 years later, the people of Blooming Prairie and their neighbors are invited to come together again to celebrate all the joy and connection the library has brought to the community over the last 50 years.

 

First is an evening social on Friday, May 1 at the BP Servicemen’s Club (210 4th St NE, Blooming Prairie, MN 55917). Doors open at 5:30 p.m. There will be free appetizers and a cash bar available, a chance to peruse history displays, and time to mingle with fellow library lovers. The program is scheduled to start at 6:30 p.m. You’ll hear from the new Library Branch Director, Bethany Anderson; the Owatonna Library Director, Mark Blando; and the special guest speaker is national best-selling author, Allen Eskens. THIS IS A TICKETED EVENT. Tickets are FREE and are available at both the Blooming Prairie and Owatonna Public Libraries. Be sure to bring your ticket with you that night because it will also act as your door prize entry. 

 

Then on Saturday, May 2 everyone is invited to a family picnic from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. taking place outside behind the library and in B to Z Hardware’s open grass lot (341 Main St E, Blooming Prairie, MN 55971). There will be a bounce house, yard games, and food available for purchase from Nel’s Diner food truck. You will also have the opportunity to contribute to our commemorative community quilt being made live onsite that day! Drop in for as much or as little of the time as you are able.
