Beckstrand seeks first time election to Waldorf council

Jamie Beckstrand, 27, is a candidate for the Waldorf City Council. She works as a Relationship Manager at United Prairie Bank. Beckstrand was born and raised just a mile outside of Waldorf. She spent four years attending college in Brookings South Dakota before purchasing her home in Waldorf in December of 2020. If elected this would be her first government position.

 

What do you consider the most important part of this job?

 

“I think the most important part of being a city council member is listening to the community members for their wants and needs,” Beckstrand answered. “At the end of the day, the community members make up the city and it is important that they are happy with their government leadership. While listening to the community and keeping them happy, it is also important to keep taxes low and utilize the resources out there to help do that while improving the city.”

 

What particular strengths or experience do you bring to the position, that you believe will help you do a good job?

 

“I think a strength I bring to the position is connections with many of the city residents and the ability to listen to their concerns and ideas,” Beckstrand continued. “I think I also have the benefit of being young and the ability to adapt and grow as technology is changing rapidly.”

 

What do you feel are the city’s most important concerns at this time?

 

“I think the most important concern for the city currently is the sewer system project and the issues this past spring with the excessive rainfall,” Beckstrand concluded.
