Traveling to Arkansas, enjoying life's pleasures

After taking some time off for a while, I'm back into the writing of the article.

Genie and I were in Harrison, Arkansas for two long weekends in April and May of this year. Genie attended a weekend retreat for just ladies in the mountains above Harrison. The natives refer to the area as the “Grand Canyon of Arkansas.”

The area caters to motorcycle bikers, they get reduced motel rates, towels to wipe off their motorcycles, plus parking under an overhang in a well lit area in plain sight.

I was amazed at the number of bikers who brought their bikes in a trailer to Harrison and rode their bikes after arriving. (It amazed me to see the number of ladies riding their own bike.)

An interesting change of language of the older north American versus the southern older American was what something was called for example a “rummage” sale was called an “old age sale.” As long as a parent was alive, a son or daughter was referred to as the first.
We travel by car getting onto highway 65 in Des Moines, Iowa, following it to Harrison, Arkansas after staying the first night in Marshall, Missouri. An interesting thing starting at Des Moines and all the way to Harrison, Arkansas was virtually no field work completed. (It was the same on the way home- very dry, no wild work completed.) The older Natives were comparing it to a drought of a dust bowl in the fifties.

We didn't experience any bad tornado storms in the time we were there until we got back to Albert Lea and spent the evening of Friday the 15 of May in the basement of our house. (Go figure-The area we were in has lots of tornadoes!!)

I suppose you have heard of the black bear seen just north of Owatonna and a black bear seen between Clarks Grove and Albert Lea. Isn't it strange the birds are migrating north and the bears are migrating south.

Genie and I decorated graves of some of her relatives in Northern Iowa on Saturday, May 23, 2026 in honor of Memorial Day. (Being from Clear Lake, Iowa, most of her relatives' graves are within 50 miles of Clear Lake.

Genie and I celebrated the full moon Saturday night August 16 by dancing on our driveway about midnight. Thank you, Genie!!

Many of you read the Star Eagle newspaper from New Richland, MN. Hopefully you read the “Just a thought” as written by Eli Lutgens, auditor in regards to his health situation. I'm asking you to keep Eli in your prayers- You can do it! I know you can!!
