A total of 460 people left with a full tummy

What time is it?? It's time for another running of the words column - so here does it:

A. Sign in the window of a political party: If you don't vote, your vote doesn't count. Sign in another window of the same Political Party: No voting is a “No” vote.

B. Sign in the Alden American Legion: Our flag does not fly because the wind moves it. It flies with the last breath of each Veteran who died protecting it.

C. In doing a look at all the “Pretty red leaves drive,” Genie and I both agree one of the prettiest if not the prettiest is in the Catholic Cemetery as you drive by in Albert Lea.

D. In regards to the Twins as a baseball team. At one time they were in the playoffs for certain, but they collapsed and didn't make the playoffs. A number of years ago when Genie and I went to Canada to teach vacation Bible school. The Twins were eight games out of first.

When we came back three weeks later, the Twins were in 1st place.

My conclusion is going from 1st to last or last to 1st is part of baseball. Pick a team and stay with through the good and bad times.

And then there is the better late than never to give recognition.

A. Paul Proft, fellow fisherman of Owatonna with a birthday Monday, October 14th.

B. Some of the details from the soup and pie supper September 23rd at Central Freeborn Church Rural Albert Lea.

1. 460 people came with an empty tummy. 460 people left with a full tummy.

2. Once again no automobile insurance claims. Thanks to Mr. Anderson, Mr. Moszer and Mr. Wangen. (Mr. Anderson was the new kid; he learned real quick!!)

3. Only workers were allowed to work!

4. Ken Bertelson was a keyboard player!!

C. Roger L. Peterson November 14, 1939 - September 21, 2024. I enjoyed many discussions with Roger - not always in agreement, but always interesting.

Thanks to Genie and her many comments on her being an Octogenarian (a person in their 8th decade of life), and especially her most favorite color – purple.

Per Genie:
When my friends and I are older:

We shall wear purple.

We will spend our Saturdays seeking out every garage sale within a 10 - mile radius. We will critique the bargains and say, “Oh, remember this - I used to have one of these!!” We will grocery shop all about town, hunting down the sales and tasting deli samples at each stop.

We will make promises to each other, like: never wear plastic rain bonnets, never wear nylon knee highs with a dress and always keep a pen and paper next to your bed, so you won't forget those nighttime thoughts.

We will walk the malls at 6 a.m. and wear shirts that say “Grandmothers are sexy.” We'll have a glass of wine at dusk, gossip a little and giggle a lot.

We will do all those things and more - my friends and I when we grow old and start to wear purple.

Genie wants all you readers to stop in for Christmas (or any other) gifts you're purchasing. The Boutique shop in  the Albert Clinic in Albert Lea is her suggestion!! (She might even be working when you stop in.)
