Time of the year for deer hunting fever
Wed, 12/03/2025 - 11:00pm
It's that time of year known as Deer hunting fever. It affects not only the hunter but also the deer.
Two of my better stories of how it affected deer are:
1. The big Buck following a Doe and he didn't see the School Bus until his antler hit and held the door into the school bus open.
2. The big buck chasing away other bucks as they tried to get close to his female “Cloth Decoy.”
Two of my better stories of how it affected the Deer hunter.
1. The hunter went deer hunting with his gun and the bullets of his wife's gun not realizing the mistake until opening morning on his stand as he tried to load his gun with her bullets from the gun.
2. The deer hunter opening morning walked the wrong way before daylight to find a deer hunter in his stand. He knew something was wrong when the other hunter started talking in a foreign language.
Where I usually hunted deer was a real disappointment as I saw no deer and heard only one shot the first morning of the hunt.
The above (very few deer) caused Genie and I to enjoy the life of the great north in the different way for example:
1. Observing wildlife especially birds fore example:
BlueJays, Chick-A-
Dees, Nut Hatch including Pygmy Nuthatch, Eagles, Snow Birds, Ravens, Woodpeckers. Most lof the birds seen were early AM.
We ate a number of meals away from our fantastic Chalet located overlooking a bay on Leech Lake. The name of the resort is “Blue Water” . This time of the year the lake water has a deep blue looking to it.
We arrived at “Blue Water Resort” on Thursday, November 6, 2025. Our son is flying into Duluth for the last few days of the deer hunting to join us and then flying back to where he lives in Buffalo, New York. Genie and I will be returning to Albert Lea at the same time.
The weather here has been very wrong for this time of the year. We got here on the 6th of November with temps in the fifties and sixties every day for the high. The temp high for every day has been above freezing. There have been boats of fishermen every day. Leech Lake has been producing perch to those willing to hold off putting boats and motors away for now.
As we have only one car here, Genie and I have to agree on the use of the car. Genie asked me to go along to a store called “Toss and Found Boutique” which is located in Longville, Minnesota. (The same town as the turtle races in the summertime.)
An update on the deer situation:
Genie has seen three deer and I have seen two deer. Together we have seen four deer-no shots. How can the total together be four deer?
A big shout out to Amber for helping put this column together and ready for going to print in the New Richland Star Eagle Newspaper.
