The older I get, the easier I get confused

A big shout out to Lyla Vierus the new acolyte at central Freeborn Lutheran Church. (Can you picture yourself at age 12 being an acolyte in your church??)

We had 114 trick-or-treaters at our house. This was a lot fewer than we had planned for as it rained hard enough to get very wet and cold. (I plan on using the leftover candy while deer hunting on the shore of Leech Lake.) Genie and I will be joined by Dan, our son, flying into Duluth from Buffalo, New York, where we pick him up and drive to Leech Lake.

It seems the older I get the easier I get confused. For example: Genie and I are looking at the “Attend the church of your choice listing in the Star Eagle newspaper October 30, 2025.

The confusion we noticed was: 1. Pastor Lepak is the pastor at two different Lutheran churches at the same time. 2. Pastor Sipe is the Pastor at three different Lutheran churches one hour and fifteen minutes apart.

Another confusing thing is: Hy-Vee is now pushing Medicare Health insurance. (I understand Hy-Vee selling pop in competition with Coke, Root Beer and Mountain Dew- with a similar name of the pop.)

I don't get confused when I catch just the tail of a mouse in a mouse trap. What is confusing is: I caught a mouse in my mouse trap with “no tail.”

Did you know Mayo is Minnesota's largest employer? Judging by the number of medications on my latest Mayo clinic medication list, I'm financially a good supporter of the drug industry. (I'm now at sixteen medications.)

The interesting facts of Halloween are being released. A surprise to me was the most seen costume. (I remember one vampire in particular, all in black with blood around “her” mouth!! Her teeth were very long and she hissed and licked her lips when speaking.)

A surprise and good statistic was the severity and number of tricks were down, while the number of trick-or-treaters was up.

A few ramblings:
If you eat a lot of sweet pickles, does that mean you will eventually be sweet or a pickle??
Many of the Lutefisk dinners require you to have a paid in advance ticket to be served. The price for an adult ticket is usually $25.00 per plate with limited re-fills. Melted butter running down the side of your mouth is permitted with or without a bib.

Many thanks to the Albert Lea Seed House for your service to the area birds via your customers over the years.

Many of the residents in the area of Burr Oak Drive and Marie Ave. have been seeing 5-6 deer (one an 8-pointer) since the community gardens by Brook side school are on hold til next spring. The thinking is the deer that were feeding there are finding food in the neighbors' gardens. (We’ve seen them on the north side of our house on Burr Oak Drive and Marie Avenue, plus their tracks.

Did you notice all the events honoring Veterans November 11, 2025?? Even a Veterans discount that some are continuing (Hy-Vee for example).
