Minnesota’s ‘law of the land’ from A to L

I know all of you have heard the expression “Law of the land.” Following are some of the Minnesota laws of the land.

A. It is against the law to cross the Minnesota-Wisconsin state border with a duck atop your head. (Minnesota duck hunters, don't carry the duck on top of your head when crossing into Wisconsin.)

B. it is illegal to tease skunks.

C. it is illegal to buy or sell live skunks.

D. Wild hogs are outlawed in Minnesota. The Minnesota state agriculture commissioner has the authority to hunt them down.

E. It is illegal to sell a fabric known as “Cotton duck.”

F. it is illegal for a landowner to eat a “nuisance” beaver that they trap because it was doing damage to their property.

G. if the town clerk will pay you a bounty for killing a woodchuck or a gopher when turning in the creature's feet, it is legal. (This is done in Viola Township by Rochester.)

H. It is against the law to catch a greased pig.

I. It is a public nuisance to drive a vehicle with dirty tires that “Deposit mud, dirt, sticky substance, litter or any other material on any street or highway.”

J. Car dealers can't sell a vehicle on Sundays.

K. Minnesota is the only state with a license to sell 3.2 beer which is made specifically to fit rules about alcohol sold in grocery and convenience stores.

L. Minnesotans caught driving under the influence are required to surrender their license plate and have them replaced with a “Whiskey Plate.” These plates are white and always begin with the letter W. This is done to help law enforcement officers identify drivers with a history of drunken driving. (The state of Ohio is the only other state requiring the “Whisky Plate” license plate.)

Did you notice a pretty green light on the outside of a house? It was in honor of military veterans. We even took ours with us and used it as a light to enter where we were staying at Blue Water Lodge on a bay at Leech Lake Walker, Minnesota while on our annual sabbatical known as deer hunting.

Happy birthday, good morning America. It's hard to believe the TV show is fifty years old. I've enjoyed Robin, Micheal, George and the rest of the cast.

They don't advertise it as such, but the crew in the kitchen at the Alden Legion the first Sunday of every month puts on a live in-person comedy. It includes a great breakfast prepared right in front of you.

To get an up-front seat and enjoy the comedy, you must sit in a chair facing the kitchen.

The comedy is a continuous show, so don't worry about when it is show time.

Ole the Norwegian cook refers to it as an “Uffda” event.

As an old republican party member, I beg of president elect Trump: “DO NOT get Bobby Kennedy involved in health care.” He should be involved in the receiving of health care, not involved in the giving of health care. Amen!!
